History
The land occupied by Domnonia was inhabited for millennia by various Indigenous Domini people. Beginning in the late 12th century, the Malabran Kingdoms of Marsyas and Gygeaul explored and later settled the southern coast along the Bay of Quen and in the 17th century much of the sub-continent was settled by peoples from across the Keeslands. Marsyas and Gygeaul ceded nearly all of its colonies in the Eastern Keeslands in 1463 after a widespread populist uprising, leading to the formation of the Sendar Kingdom. In 1857, with the union of three Keeslander colonies through Confederation, Domnonia was established as a federal dominion of five provinces; Powysia, Algar, Lindinis, Cadorn and East Hiel. This began an accretion of additional provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the Keesland state, highlighted by the Confederation Act and culminating in the Jedoor Act, which brought the Sendar Kingdom into Confederation as a sixth province.
A federation now comprising 8 provinces and 2 territories, Domnonia is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with the descendants of Delain Hruska(father of Confederation) or culturally significant figures of the time acting as symbolic head of state. It is a trilingual and multicultural country, with English, Synüdari and French as official languages at the federal level.
Technologically advanced and industrialized, Domnonia maintains a diversified economy that is heavily reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade—particularly within the IDU, with which Domnonia has a long history.
Government
Executive
Head of State
Executive authority is formally and constitutionally vested in the Diadem of Domnonia but is, in practice, exercised by the Cabinet; making the Cabinet the seat of executive power. This arrangement stems from the principles of responsible government, wherein, by convention, the Diadem remains apolitical, almost invariably deferring all governmental matters to the ministers, who make up the Cabinet and are themselves responsible to the elected Colloquium for their actions. Following this formula ensures the stability of government, though the sovereign does retain their right to use the Diadastic Prerogative in exceptional constitutional crisis situations.
Head of Government
The Prime Minister of Domnonia, the leader of the political party that commands the confidence of the Colloquium, is appointed by the Diadem to select and head the Cabinet; thus, the Prime Minister's Office is one of the most powerful organs of government, tasked with selecting, besides the other Cabinet members: Elocutions, Qu'gnais court judges, heads of federal corporations and government agencies, and the federal and provincial viceroys for appointment. The leader of the party with the second most seats usually becomes the Leader of the Opposition and is part of an adversarial parliamentary system that keeps the government in check. The Right Honourable Taylor Eden Carlson, leader of the Fiscal Conservative Social Progressive Party, has been Prime Minister since February 2, 2002; and Yehia Froess, leader of the Domini Peoples Party, has been Leader of the Opposition since May 3, 2008.
Legislative
Domnonia's Parliament consists of the Diadem and a bicameral legislature: an elected Écouter, or lower chamber, which proposes and puts to vote legislation; and an appointed Locūtiō, or upper chamber, which is considered a "sober second thought" and can send bills back to the lower chamber or excuse them. In practice, legislative power rests with the party that has the majority of seats in the Colloquium, which is elected from 670 constituencies for a period not to exceed five years. Domnonia's highly disciplined political parties and first-past-the-post electoral system have usually given one political party control of the Écouter. The prime minister may ask the Diadem to dissolve Parliament and call new elections at virtually any time. By custom, prime ministers usually call new elections after four years in power.
The Elocution is not without power. Because the governing party generally nominates its supporters as elocutioners, the the influence of the Locūtiō is usually the greatest when a new party comes to power after another party has been in power a long time. The Constitution contains a special provision that allows the prime minister to counteract that situation by recommending the appointment of an additional eight members.
Geography
Domnonia occupies a major portion of the Eastern Keeslands, with mainland Domnonia sharing land borders with Antrium and Hiel to the west, and Gnejs to the east, stretching from the Gulf of Keesland in the north to the Gulf de Fienzõ et Maedon and Iapetus Sea in the south; to the northeast lies the Northeast Ocean. Since 2008, Domnonia has claimed the island of Cartier Timur, but this claim is not universally recognized.
The population density, 130.5 inhabitants per square kilometre, is among the highest in the IDU. The most densely populated part of the country is the Arcium-Ungava Corridor along the Arciulle River and Hiel Bay in the southwest. In the northeast is the Qu'Maen Plain, an area of rock scoured clean by the last ice age, thinly soiled, rich in minerals, and dotted with lakes and rivers.
In southeastern Domnonia, most people live in large urban centres on the flat Ca'darawnithit lowlands. The Domii River widens into a massive estuary before flowing into the Silures Gulf. The Gulf is bounded by Cadorn and Angby to the north, Lindinis to the west, and the Silures Territories to the east. Mainland Domnonia and Silures are divided by the Silures Gulf and Gnejs. West of the lowlands, the broad, flat Domini Prairies spread toward the Llyss Range, South Uplands, and the Domini Badlands which briefly separate them from Algar.
In northwestern Domnonia, the Isca River flows from the Arciulle Range to the Bay of Antrium???. A tributary of a tributary of the Isca is the Mae River, which is home to Maelle Falls, a waterfall about twice as high as the Caer Falls near Powys.
Vegetation in the Great Alvésin Plain region, which encompasses much of northern Domnonia, tapers from coniferous forests to tundra and finally to Arctic barrens in the far north. The Algar coastline is ringed with vast number of fjords.
Average winter and summer high temperatures across Domnonia vary depending on the location. Winters can be harsh in many regions of the country, particularly in the interior and Prairie regions which experience a continental climate, where daily average temperatures are near −15 °C but can drop below −50 °C (−40 °F) with severe wind chills. In non-coastal regions, snow can cover the ground almost six months of the year (more in the north). East Hiel and the south coast are an exception and enjoy a temperate climate with a mild and rainy winter.
In East Hiel and along the Fienzõ coast average high temperatures are generally in the low 30s °C, while between the coasts the average summer high temperature ranges from 25 to 30 °C with occasional extreme heat in some interior locations exceeding 40 °C.
The Confederation
The provinces are responsible for most of Domnonia's social programs and together collect more revenue than the federal government, an almost unique structure among federations. Using its spending powers, the federal government can initiate national policies in provincial areas, such as the Domini Health Act; the provinces can opt out of these, but rarely do so in practice. Equalization payments are made by the federal government to ensure that reasonably uniform standards of services and taxation are kept between the richer and poorer provinces. All provinces have unicameral, elected legislatures headed by a Premier selected in the same way as the Prime Minister of Domnonia. Each province also has a Lieutenant-Governor representing the Diadem of Domnonia. The Lieutenant-Governor is appointed on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, though with increasing levels of consultation with provincial governments in recent years.
The Province of Algar
Algar lies in western Domnonia, it borders the nation of Antrium along the River Isca. Algar is the largest producer of conventional crude oil, synthetic crude, natural gas and gas products in Domnonia. Two of the largest producers of petrochemicals in the IDU are located in central and east central Algar. Over 5 million cattle are residents of the province at one time or another, and Algar beef has a healthy worldwide market. Algar is a parliamentary democracy. Its unicameral legislature -- the Legislative Assembly -- consists of 100 members. The government is headed by a Premier. The city of Algaria is Algar's government capital.
The Federal District of Cadorn
The Province of East Hiel
East Hiel is the westernmost province of Domnonia. It's capital is Ungava. Ungava is Domnonia's second most populous metropolitan area, reaching from the eastern shores of Yuril Bay to the southernmost tips of the East Hiel Isthmus. Other major cities include Maedon, and Arcium. The Hiel Range and Yuril Bay provide some of Domnonia's most renowned and spectacular scenery, which forms the backdrop and context for a growing outdoor adventure and ecotourism industry.
Province d'Inlad
The province of Inlad occupies a small territory (comparable to the size of East Hiel), most of which is very sparsely populated. The most populated region is the Laurentian Bay area in the mid-south, where the capital, Souther, and the largest city, are situated. Inladers comprise the largest French-speaking society in Domnonia. Most French Domini live in Inlad, though there are other concentrations of French-speakers throughout Domnonia with varying degrees of ties to Inlad, or Jonquiere-Tadoussac.
The Province of Lindinis
The Province of Powysia
The Province of Sendar
Sendar is the most recent of mainland Domini provinces to join confederation. It has an area of 651,900 km and a population of 22,985,386. Most of its population lives in the geographic centre and the southernmost parts of the province. The largest city is Jedoor with a metropolitan population of 10.7 million, followed by the province's capital, Sendar (6.66 million).
The Territories of Tomar
The Silures Territories
Silures was formerly a state of Poking the Devil(PD), and has begun an absorption process which will see it join Confederation as a full Province within 5 years. Geographically, Silures is east of the Domi River on the southwestern border of the Federal District of Cadorn, and southeast of Gnejs.

Economy
Domnonia is one of the IDU's wealthiest nations, with a high per-capita income, a member of the IDU Council (IDUc) and Keeslandic States (KS). Domnonia is a mixed market, ranking lower than the IDU average but higher than most nations on the NSEconomy index of Civil Rights and Political Freedoms. Since the early 1990s, the Domini economy has been growing rapidly with low unemployment(11%) and large government surpluses on the federal level. Today Domnonia closely resembles the IDU in its market-oriented economic system, pattern of production, and high living standards. Provincial unemployment rates vary from a low of 3.6% in Algar to a high of 14.6% in Inland.
In the past century, the growth of the manufacturing, mining, and service sectors has transformed the nation from a largely rural economy into one primarily industrial and urban. As with other first world nations, the Domnonia economy is dominated by the service industry, which employs about three quarters of Domini. However, Domnonia is unusual among developed countries in the importance of the primary sector, with the logging and oil industries being two of Domnonia's most important.
Domnonia is one of the few developed nations that are net exporters of energy. The Silures Territories have vast offshore deposits of natural gas and large oil and gas resources are centred in Algar. The vast Domini Badlands and Plateau give Domnonia the region's second largest reserves oil. In East Hiel, Powysia, Federal Cadorn, Lindinis and Silures, hydroelectric power is a cheap and clean source of renewable energy.

Domnonia is one of the region's most important suppliers of agricultural products, with the Central Prairies one of the most important suppliers of wheat, canola, potato, rice, and tea. Domnonia is the region's largest producer of zinc and uranium and a world leader in many other natural resources such as gold, nickel, aluminum. Domnonia also has a sizable manufacturing sector centered in southern Lindinis and Federal Cadorn, with automobiles and aeronautics representing particularly important industries.
Economic integration with the IDU has increased significantly since the Riconiaan Refugee Crisis. The IDU Free Trade Agreement in 2005 opened the borders to trade relatively tariff-free throughout the IDU. Domini nationalists continue to worry about their cultural autonomy as foreign television shows, movies and corporations are omnipresent. At present, parliament is actively discussing the adoption of the Elective International Currency Resolution that has passed and been ratified by many IDU Council members.
Since 2001, Domnonia has successfully avoided economic recession. Since the mid-1990s, Domnonia's federal government has posted annual budgetary surpluses and has steadily paid down the national debt.
Bank of Domnonia
The Bank of Domnonia (Banque du Dom) is Domnonia's central bank. It was created by the Bank of Domnonia Act of 1924, to "promote the economic and financial well-being of of the federation." It is the sole issuer of banknotes in the nation, and the central bank for the Domi.
The bank's headquarters are located in the Bank of Domnonia Building at the corner of Ca'Meewasin Street and Vanier Avenue in downtown Cadorn.
Demographics
Residents were able to self-identify one or more ethnocultural ancestries in the 2008 census. The most common response was 'Domini', and since the term 'Domini' is as much an expression of citizenship as of ethnicity, these figures should not be considered an exact record of the relative prevalence of different ethnocultural ancestries.
Domnonia's 2008 census counted a total population of 208,680,564, an increase of 5.4% since 2004. Population growth is from immigration and, to a lesser extent, natural growth. About three-quarters of Domnonia's population live in urban areas concentrated in the Powyss River region, the Arciulle Cordillera, and the Ca'darawnithit lowlands.
According to the 2008 census, the largest self-identified ethnic group is Domini (21%), followed by Keeslandic (15.8%), Indigenous Domini (14.5%), Antries (15.2%), Jontadain (11.9%), Riconiaan (6.2%), Gnejsian (5%), and of other various IDU lineage (10.4%). Domnonia's Indigenous population is growing almost twice as fast as the national average.
According to Statistics Domnonia forecasts, the number of immigrants in the country is expected to double by 2017. A survey released in 2007 reveals that virtually 1 in 5 Domnonia citizens (19.8%) are foreign born. Nearly 95% of new immigrants hail from other IDU nations.
Domnonia has a high per capita immigration rate, driven by economic policy and family reunification; Domnonia also accepts large numbers of refugees. Newcomers settle mostly in the major urban areas of Ungava, Isca, Powyss, and Cadorn.
Support for religious securalism is an important part of Domnonia's political culture. According to the 2008 census, 87.1% of Domnonia citizens identify as being Secular Humanists.
Domini provinces and territories are responsible for education. Each system is similar, while reflecting regional history, culture and geography. The mandatory school enrollment period is 10 years, contributing to an adult literacy rate that is 99%. Postsecondary education is also administered by provincial and territorial governments, who provide most of the funding; the federal government administers additional research grants, student loans and scholarships. In 2002, 63% of citizens aged between 25 and 64 had post-secondary education; for those aged 25 to 34 the post-secondary education rate reaches 81%.

Culture
It has been said that Domini culture rests solely in the effort to distinguish itself from its neighbours in the IDU. However, others argue that while the region shares some aspects of a common cultural heritage, there is also a separately identifiable Domini culture. They point to what they view as a greater integration of their Native culture; the retention of traditions descended from those of French settlers; and a notable infusion of immigrant and refugee settlers in later phases of the country's history.

Media
Domnonia's first newspaper, The Cadorn Post, began publication in 1792. Like most newspapers, it was an adjunct of a commercial printing operation. Moreover, it was dependent on the government. This reliance on revenues from sources other than readers - from governments, political parties and advertisers - remains a characteristic of Domnonian newspapers.
The Cadorn Post merged with the Preston Globe in 1814, to become what is Domnonia's national newspaper, The Domini Globe & Post.

Five Priorities Of International Engagement
1. Revitalizing Domnonia's International Democratic Union partnership by actively encouraging new member nations to join and promoting prosperity within the region;
2. Building a more secure region by stabilizing failed and fragile states, and combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction;
3. Increasing prosperity by strengthening Domnonia's competitiveness, enhancing commercial engagement, and targeting Domnonian businesses;
4. Promoting respect for human rights and building friendships by sharing Domnini expertise; and
5. Crafting new multilateralism and flexible diplomacy to deal with developments in Nationstates. Recent Initiatives
Law
The constitution is the supreme law of the country, and consists of written text and unwritten conventions. The Symmetrical Constitution Act, 1899, affirmed governance based on parliamentary precedent "similar in principle to that of the Keeslands" and divided powers between the federal and provincial governments; the Statute of Isca, 1921, granted full autonomy; and the Asymmetric Constitution Act, 1977, added the Domini Writs of Rights and Freedoms, which guarantees basic rights and freedoms that usually cannot be overridden by any level of government – though a notwithstanding clause allows the federal parliament and provincial legislatures to override certain sections of The Writs for a period no longer than 2 years.
Domnonia's judiciary plays an important role in interpreting laws and has the power to strike down laws that violate the Constitution. The Supreme Court of Domnonia, the Qu'gnais, is the highest court and final arbiter and is led by the Right Honourable Madam Chief Justice Salim Jahradat, since 2000. Its nine members are appointed by the Diadem on the advice of the Prime Minister and Minister of Justice. All judges at the superior and appellate levels are appointed after consultation with non-governmental legal bodies. The federal cabinet also appoints justices to superior courts at the provincial and territorial levels. Judicial posts at the lower provincial and territorial levels are filled by their respective governments.
Common law prevails everywhere except in Inlad, Silures, and Cartier where civil law predominates. Criminal law is solely a federal responsibility and is uniform throughout Domnonia. Law enforcement, including criminal courts, is a provincial responsibility, but in rural areas of all provinces except Federal Cadorn and East Hiel, policing is contracted to the Domini Federal Law Service(DFLS).
